Great news for ska and reggae fans, Montreal’s The Beatdown (ex-One Night Band members) have signed with Stomp Records and will be releasing their debut album in April 2010. The band made up of Canadian ska/reggae elite; Alex Giguere (vocals, guitar, harmonica), Pascal Lessieur (bass), Jovan Savoie (guitar) and Nicolas Fizzano (drums) will be spending January and the February on the road. The four-piece spent the fall recording in Montreal at Indygene Studios and frontman Giguère, who’s worked with bands such as The Planet Smashers, Staylefish, One Night Band, RDC, Mighty Stef, produced the forthcoming record. The 12 diversified tracks that make up the full-length features well-known musicians including Larry Love and Patty (One Night Band) and Josh Fuhrman (the Kingpins).
Just as the One Night Band did, The Beatdown will be spending most of their time on the road, going from city to city every night to share their contagious reggae/ska with new and old fans alike. The Beatdown will be hitting the road in January across Quebec and Ontario before heading over to Europe for a month-long tour. In their short time together as a band,The Beatdown have already played at the Montreal International Reggae Festival, Montreal Ska Festival, Ottawa Ska Fest, Festival du bout du monde in Gaspé and has backed Jamaican singer Vernon Maytone (author of Money Worries) and toured with The Johnstones, The Slackers, Green Room Rockers, The Planet Smashers, Subb, Chris Murray, and U-Roy -just to name a few. Expect to hear much more from The Beatdown this year!

You’ve known them as hardworking road warriors with an unyielding passion for reggae and Jamaican music.The One Night Band is now on a break, but this hasn’t stopped singer/guitarist Alex Giguere from keeping busy. He has taken this opportunity to initiate a more personal and introspective project.Joining forces with ONB bass player Pascal Lesieur, ex-drummer Nicolas Fizzano and longtime friend Jovanny Savoie, Giguere introduces The Beatdown. What to expect from this new musical venture? Pure and uncompromising reggae and ska, with soul overtones and a punk edge.
